Last February at our local Fly Fishing show in Pleasanton, California. I met Jeff Allen and we talked about fly fishing here in California. I mentioned my home waters on the Lower Stanislaus River and how the wild trout in this fishery really like the small nymphs & midges. We looked at an assortment of options for me but it was the Pheasant Tail nymph with the soft hackle that really caught my eye. The local river levels finally came down last week, so I went out and tied on an Allen Brothers Pheasant Tail Nymph as my lead fly with a midge dropper. I was pumped about the success I had on my top fly. The tungsten bead head put me right in the feeding zone for these rainbows. I was the only one catching fish on my lead fly that day. I love the action the soft hackle brings to the fly and so do the fish. I'm excited to put a few more in my box. Thanks for the great info and I look forward to telling you more about my fishing adventures with your flies.
